Interaction of oxygen interstitials with lattice faults in Ti

چکیده
Oxygen greatly affects the mechanical properties of titanium. In addition, dislocations and twin boundaries influence the plastics deformation of hexagonal close-packed metals. As part of a systematic study of defects interactions in Ti, we investigate the interactions of oxygen with ð10 12Þ twin boundaries and ð10 10Þ prism plane stacking faults. The energetics of four interstitial sites in the twin geometry are compared with the bulk octahedral site. We show that two of these sites located at the twin boundary are more attractive to oxygen than bulk, while the sites away from the boundary are repulsive. Moreover, we study the interaction of oxygen with the prismatic stacking fault to approximate oxygen–dislocation interaction. We show that oxygen increases the stacking fault energy and therefore is repelled by the faulted geometry and consequently a dislocation core. 2014 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. The role of surface and subsurface point defects for chemical model studies on TiO2: a first-principles theoretical study of formaldehyde bonding on rutile TiO2(110).
We report a systematic investigation of the effects of different surface and subsurface point defects on the adsorption of formaldehyde on rutile TiO(2)(110) surfaces using density functional theory (DFT). All point defects investigated--including surface bridging oxygen vacancies, titanium interstitials, and subsurface oxygen vacancies--stabilize the adsorption significantly by up to 56 kJ mol...
متن کاملDefect configurations of high-k cations in germanium
At germanium/high-k interfaces cations and oxygen interstitials can diffuse into the germanium substrate. Here we employ density functional theory calculations to investigate the interaction of a range of such cations (Al, Y, Zr, Nb, La, and Hf) with intrinsic defects and oxygen in germanium. It is predicted that high-k cations strongly bind with lattice vacancies, oxygen interstitials, and A-c...

We report on the synthesis, morphology, chemically and structurally of TiO2-CuO-SiO2 nanostructure with different precursors molar ratio and calcined temperatures. In the present work, ternary reactive powders in the TiO2-CuO-SiO2 systems have been obtained using the sol-gel method, by the simultaneous gelation of all cations. The compounds and other ...

In this paper, Cu-Ti nanocomposite synthesized via ball milling of copper-titanium powders in 1, 3, and 6 of weight percentage compounds. The vial speed was 350 rpm and ball to powder weight ratio kept at 15:1 under Argon atmosphere, and the time of milling was 90 h. Obtained powders were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and dynamic light scattering (DLS)....
